With Casey Crevelone (Tucson, AZ/CDO High School) (Tucson, AZ), Trey Clarkson (Tucson, AZ/Sal Pointe High School) (Tucson, AZ), and DJ Nicholas (Glendale, AZ/Glendale High School) (Glendale, AZ) all posting 12-plus points, it was hard to deny the Mustangs a victory over Grand Canyon University Wednesday night. WNMU got their third win in a row and third of the season, 67-52. Grand Canyon dropped to 2-1.
The Mustangs took the lead with 16:33 left in the first half and never looked back thanks to Nicholas' three offensive boards and shooting 4-of-7 from the field. WNMU walked into the locker room at half time with a five point lead, 32-27.
With fresh legs, WNMU went on an 15-4 run in the first six minutes of the second half to widen the Mustang margin and to seal the victory.
Overall, WNMU shot 42.6 percent from the field. The 'Lopes shot a bit lower with 35.3 percent.
Crevelone and Nicholas both posted 13 points. Clarkson chipped in with 12 of his own.
Nicholas ended the night with five offensive rebounds and three defensive. Senior Kris Taylor (Mesa, AZ/Dobson High School) (Mesa, AZ) also grabbed seven rebounds.
Grand Canyon's Milee Karre led all scorers with 20 points, nailing 6-of-9 from the field.
